Is reading from an electronic device bad for my child?

Technology surrounds our children. When it comes to reading e-books, kids indeed can do that without overusing electronic devices. (1)

eBooks offer several advantages: (1)

  1. Children learn early literacy skills from good quality eBooks that include features like dictionary, highlighting words, pictures and games.
  2. Children interact longer with their parents while looking at eBooks.
  3. eBooks are convenient and accessible.

On the other hand, it is important to highlight a key disadvantage of eBooks which is increasing screen time which is currently a main concern for almost all parents. (1)

So we can say that sscreens are present in our daily life with many benefits, but they could be harmful if overused.

AACAP (the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) recommends limiting non-educational screen time to about 1 hour per weekday and 3 hours on the weekend days. (2)
