What should I never say to a child?

Parenting is a challenging mission especially when we aim for positive parenting by focusing on practices that nurture the development of children’s core internal strength. It also involves strengthening abilities that matter most to healthy development. (1)

Many of us might unintentionally say things to children thinking it’s the ideal way to raise, discipline, advise, or even express emotions such as:

  1. I do everything for you
  2. Stop crying, you’ll be fine
  3. You did well, but you could do better
  4. You’re just like your mother/father
  5. We can’t afford that
  6. I told you so
  7. I wish you were more like
  8. I’m disappointed in you
  9. You’d better do what I say or else
  10. You’re selfish2
