At what age can a child start making friends?

At three years old, your child will be less selfish and less dependent on you, with a stronger own sense of identity and security. (1)

At this stage he will play with other children, interacting instead of just playing side by side.

They will start to recognize that people are different. Not everyone thinks exactly as they do and that each of their playmates has many unique qualities, some attractive and some not. This will help them discover their own special qualities and boost their self-esteem. Your child will start drifting toward certain kids and developing friendships with them. (1)

At this stage, teach your child how to cooperate with other kids through sharing toys, expressing their own feelings and peacefully coping with conflicts. (1)
