Do ORL specialist doctors treat thyroid?

An ENT (otorhinolaryngologist) specialist can treat some thyroid conditions, thus, we need to know first the 4 different thyroid disorders that require treatment.

  1. Hypothyroidism: lack of thyroid hormone may be caused by a gland that isn’t working or it is missing
  2. Hyperthyroidism: too much of the thyroid hormones
  3. Thyroiditis: it is the inflammation of the thyroid gland caused by infection
  4. Thyroid nodules: abnormal growth within the thyroid that can vary from small to large nodules, benign or malign 1

The treatment of the thyroid conditions is based on the type of the disorder. Usually, thyroid nodules fall under the expertise of ENT specialists.1,2

Your child’s paediatrician would be the most adequate person to guide you on the best procedures to follow.
