COVID-19 & Domestic Animals: is my child at risk?

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, very little number of cats and dogs have been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

The risk of the transmitting COVID-19 from pets to people is very low although there is limited available information regarding this topic and no clear evidence that the viruses can spread to people or other animals from a pet's skin, fur or hair.

It is not only about COVID-19, always remember that young children and people with weak immune systems, and elderly people aged 65 and above are more likely to get sick from some other germs that animals can carry.

Tips to protect your pet from the COVID-19 virus:

  1. Keep your walks short and avoid crowded places
  2. When walking your dog, make sure your dog wears a leash and walks close to you
  3. Clear your pet’s paws before entering the house
  4. Keep cats indoors when possible1
