Flu virus: How do I prevent it?

Young children are at a high risk of developing serious flu-related complications. The major prevention measure is to get vaccinated. A flu vaccine offers the best defense against flu and its potentially serious consequences and can also reduce the spread of flu to others. Getting vaccinated has been shown to reduce flu illnesses, doctor’s visits, missed work for working parents and school days, and reduce the risk of flu-related hospitalization and death in children. Information on this page summarizes vaccine recommendations for children: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/highrisk/children.htm 1

Other good habits include:

  1. Avoid close contact with sick people.
  2. Clean your hands regularly.
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  4. Disinfect surfaces around the child.
  5. Offer healthy and nutritious food. 2
