Why does my child keep on telling lies?

As a first thought, kids might lie to get what they want, avoid trouble, or get out of things. However, there are plenty of other reasons kids might not tell the truth.

  1. Kids who lack self-confidence might lie to seem more impressive, special and talented in the eyes of others.
  2. Depressed or anxious kids might lie because they don’t want others to worry.
  3. Like grown-ups, kids tell lies for social reasons. They call is a white lie.
  4. As if it is a new discovery, children lie to see what will happen following their story. (1)
  5. A child might lie about something they wish it can be true.
  6. A kid can lie to attract his parents attention. (2)

It’s important to find out the reason behind your child’s behaviour so you can respond in the best way.
