Why does my toddler refuse milk now that we switched to cup feeding?

There are many causes, but the most important ones are:

  1. Emotional cause: the child had a feeling of comfort and pleasure while being fed, before moving to cup
  2. Switching time is late or not gradual
  3. Tough time with transition: it might seem like major things are changing every day for the child: “That’s stressful”; surrounding him with his favourite things can reassure him that there are plenty of things in this world that he/she can count on even if his dishware is changing.
  4. The child doesn’t like the tip of the cup (the flexible one is the most preferable).
  5. The child doesn’t understand how to use the cup: infants and toddlers are accustomed to the sucking; they must learn to self-south without sucking from the cup. However, in order to achieve this, the child will usually take a little bit of time.
  6. If the child is not ready for transition; the parent must:
  • Actively encourage the child to move to the next step
  • Continuously tell them they’re is growing up when using the Sippy cup
