What are the most common nutritional deficiencies in children?

The most common nutritional deficiencies are: Iron, Vit D and Calcium deficiency.

  1. Iron deficiency:

Iron is essential for numerous body functions and development in kids at this age. And it is hard to be sure that our kids are getting the amount of iron they need due to its low absorption. Iron deficiency can lead to anemia which leads to an improper cognitive function and development. Even if your child is a picky eater you should always keep in mind that his/her diet should be enriched in iron (red meat, beans, dark green leafy vegetables with lemon, iron-fortified cereals and milk.        2. Vit D deficiency:

Vit D is a fat-soluble vitamin and is essential for the calcium absorption, for the bone growth in children. Vit D deficiency is common and especially in kids with darker skin and those who are rarely exposed to sun. Supplements are important, exposure to sunlight also and giving to kids Vit D-rich food like fish, egg yolks or fortified products like milk and cereals. (1)(2)
