My children are addicted to screens. How do I help stop the addiction?

Media is everywhere. TV, the Internet, computers and video games are attracting children's attention. Today's children are spending an average of seven hours a day on entertainment media, including televisions, computers, phones and other electronic devices.1

Below are some tips to limit screen time:

  1. Screens should not be available in kids' bedrooms.2
  2. Screen time should not be allowed during mealtime and at least for 1 hour before bedtime. 2
  3. Plan outdoor activities with your child to cover the recommended amount of daily physical activity (1 hour) 3
  4. Organize indoor activities such as reading, talking, playing together 3
  5. Designate media-free times together (eg, family dinner) and media-free locations (eg, bedrooms) 3
